Why the BC Curriculum?
Why BC Curriculum?
How did the idea for NatureFolx begin?
Well, it all began with my experience at the University of British Columbia in their marine biology program. I absolutely loved learning about the salmon, kelp forests and cedar trees. I was able to put this knowledge to great use when I worked with as an outdoor educator in Tofino, BC on Tla-o-qui-aht territory.
In this role, I noticed a lot of teachers I worked with used the popular website teacherspayteachers (teacherspayteachers.com) and twinkl (twinkl.com). Now more than ever, educators are spread extremely thin and often after getting home after an entire day of work have to put in even more hours to lesson plan! Teachers would go to these websites to find supplements to their lesson plans, however they were rarely in line with their local BC curriculum, not to mention the local flora and fauna in BC.
So many teachers I worked with loved teaching outdoors, land-based learning and our field trips we did together. I saw a need and I wanted to fill it. This is where the Nature Digest came in.
The teachers I was working with wanted to focus on their students, get outside and learn from the land. I decided I would do the hard part for them and create nature-based ecology lesson plans in a neat little digest that they could use in and out of the classroom each month.
The digest is completely in line with the BC Curriculm as it is renown and highly regarded curriculum used all over the world. The more people who could use my digests the better! The digests include printable reading games, outdoor worksheets and lessons, science games, outdoor activities and more.
If you are interested I have a few samples on the website! We publish a new digest every month on a new ecology topic in line with the BC curriculum. You can subscribe or purchase a guide once-off if you would prefer. More information can be found here.
